Description: Portland-based blues duo Hillstomp digs through the dumps and forgotten backwoods of American music, recycling traditional numbers into a transcendent brand of hill-country stomp. North Mississippi trance blues, a bit of Appalachia, and a dash of punkabilly come clanging and tumbling from assorted buckets, cans and BBQ lids, all drenched in rambunctious slide guitar and clawhammer banjo. Hillstomp is visiting Lawrence on the heels of a stop at the Deep Blues Festival in Minnesota, packing a new live album titled "After Two But Before Five."
The Dewayn Brothers use clever song arrangements and smooth harmonies to create a uniquely Kansas string-band sound. Like Split Lip Rayfield, it's fast-paced insurgent bluegrass drawing influence from old-timey, punk, classic rock and metal. Female vocalist Jamie Lee belts out songs of lost loves and bad guys, while the boys sing about death and drinking and gettin' rabies from your own dog. The quintet recently ditched its alter-ego rock band Loco Macheen to put 110% effort into the Bros—an evolution that's well documented on the group's third LP "Farmer."
